Last December, after four incredible years, the SEACLEAR project has reached its end. However, the problem of sea litter is far from solved, even though we demonstrated that automatic litter detection and collection is possible!

Our efforts are not over, and we are continuing to develop technology that will enable us in the future to keep our oceans clean. This work will continue through the SeaClear 2.0 project that started already on January 2023. For the next three years we will develop further the hardware and software of SEACLEAR, so that we can detect and collect more and bigger litter objects, addressing the full cycle of marine litter. This will help meet the objectives of the Mission to restore, protect and preserve the health of our oceans, seas and waters by 2030, in the context of the Mediterranean Sea basin lighthouse of the European Commission.

The SEACLEAR project spans four years, running from January 1st, 2020 to December 31st, 2023.
